5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Laptop!, October 24, 2011

This review is from: ASUS G74SX-DH73-3D 17.3-Inch 3D Gaming Laptop - Replublic of Gamers (Black) (Personal Computers)
This Asus 74SX-DH73-3D laptop has gone way beyond my expectations!

I have trouble even finding words to describe this laptop. Beautiful, sleek, powerful and truely plays games incredibly well! Looks like a stealth jet and built like a tank! I bought this laptop to play Battlefield 3 and Skyrim (when it comes out), never seeing a laptop play graphically intense games as well as a gaming desktop, I was doubtful. But after loading BF3 and firing it up, those doubts disappeared instantly! The auto graphic settings in the game set everything to ultra and high and plays at those levels without a glitch. Come on Skyrim!

I did plenty of research and comparisons between this and other Asus g74,g73 and g53 models and the DH73-3D model won out, even despite its price. All the issues that other models have had have been fixed in this model. I keep trying to find a con or issue with this laptop but haven't yet other then the 3D mode switch next to the power switch only... Read more

=== The Good ===
This laptop performs well as a result of the pairing of a quick CPU, a quick GPU, and plenty of RAM for each. I purchased this laptop to use for game playing and game programming and I'm pleased with the performance of both. The keyboard and chassis stay cool even after being on all day, so cool that it's very difficult to tell if the laptop is on by feel.... it feels like room temperature to me. The screen hinge does a good job of keeping the screen in a steady position even as I type this review while sitting on a couch with the laptop on my lap. The matte screen is bright and crisp, with a much nicer surface coating texture than my desktop IPS LCDs. I haven't used the 3D glasses much yet, but even so I recommend this model over the other G74SX models that lack the 3D display since the matte screen and very high brightness capabilities of the 3D panel make it possible to work in what would otherwise have been poor lighting conditions for the dimmer,... 5.0 out of 5 stars Quiet, Fast, Sturdy, Bright, December 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: ASUS G74SX-DH73-3D 17.3-Inch 3D Gaming Laptop - Replublic of Gamers (Black) (Personal Computers)
I have had this PC for about two weeks. I was agonizing between this machine and the Alienware X18. I finally decided on this unit due to comparable hardware at a much better price, and reliability ratings as high as anything on the market. I couldn't be happier with my first impressions of the ASUS.

My main concerns with a PC are the things I spend the most time with... the display and the keyboard. The screen is stunning and bright with the perfect anti-glare coating. I had read that the Alienware machine has a very high gloss screen and was like a mirror. If you hate those type of screens (as I do), then you are in for a treat on the ASUS. Did I say stunning?

Next the keyboard. I was hesitant due to other reviews about missed keystrokes and a dislike for the "chiclet" style keys , but I've found it quite comfortable and have had no issues with missed strokes. The larger engraved letters and back-lit keys are an awesome aid to my 56 year old eyes. The... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars 1080p Goodness for the budget-minded!, October 21, 2009
This review is from: Optoma HD20 High Definition 1080p DLP Home Theater Projector (Grey) (Electronics)
I first wrote this review on another site, and now that I've had more time with this projector I have added and changed a few things and am reposting the review on Amazon. I think more people will look to Amazon when purchasing this projector, especially since the other site is not stocking it anymore. Hopefully this review helps those of you who are on the edge about purchasing this projector.

Pros: Good looking, gloss-white finish. Low-noise fan on normal-bulb mode. 4000 hours lamp life on econo is greater then most projectors! Good enough to use in bright mode to use with lights turned on in the room. In the dark, it looks simply amazing!

1080p content looks very good. Blu-rays played from a PS3 (or other blu-ray player) look awesome. I watched Kung-Fu Panda and was "wowed" by what you can notice on a much larger screen. I just watched Transformers : Revenge of the Fallen on it last night and I was amazed at the details and I noticed things I didn't even... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Initial impressions, very pleased, August 21, 2009
This review is from: Optoma HD20 High Definition 1080p DLP Home Theater Projector (Grey) (Electronics)
This was an upgrade for me from a 720p, DLP projector (Mitsubishi HD1000u). Initial impressions are very positive, based on about 10 hours of viewing & tweaking. Very quiet, and plenty bright running in low power mode. The high resolution (1920 X 1080) approaches that for a typical 2k digital cinema, so my 145" diagonal screen, viewed from about 15 feet distance, provides a very pleasing movie experience. That said, the increase in resolution from 720p is an incremental step, so it is not the be all and end all of image quality in projectors. More specifically the source material you feed it is what really brings out the quality. Many HD feed materials (from cable or satellite) don't ever approach the inherent resolution of the projector, so at this point only blu-ray source material will really give the utmost in high resolution detail (and not even all disks, depending on the original mastering, etc.). Black levels are similar to my previous DLP projector, so if you are... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Calibration is tougher!!, January 1, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Optoma HD20 High Definition 1080p DLP Home Theater Projector (Grey) (Electronics)
I have been playing with the HD20 for last couple of days. I am still not sure what to say. Unlike any of my previous projectors(Optoma HD31 and HD70) it gives u too many options to calibrate. I guess that is a good thing. However,I am still struggling with this process and seems like quite overwhelming to me. Good thing is picture is much bigger and brighter than HD70. Super wide is a nice option. However, in terms of picture details I am still not sure what to say especially with the downloaded HD content. Apparently it needs lot more tweaking( and hard work) to calibrate it properly. I was reading different forums and there I read that it actually needs 100 odd hours for the bulb to settle down. So that might be the reason too. Hence, to summarize, in terms of size and brightness, the improvement is significant. But as of now sadly I cannot say that in terms of picture quality and details. I will keep u updated as I keep continuing the calibration process.

Update:... Read more
