I saved myself 30 bucks buying it here rather than my local retailer. $35 for this at Best Buy? Seriously? It's absolutely crazy the kind of markup that retailers expect to get for these little doodads.

The negative reviews here, claiming it doesn't support audio, are (obviously) those who don't know what they're doing -- people who expect "plug and play." I'm a Mac guy, which is about as plug and play as it gets, but even with a Mac it doesn't always work that way. I still had to open System Preferences/Sound/Output and select my TV. All of a 10-second process (Windoze users should expect something a bit more tedious). If it still doesn't work, and you've upgraded your Mac to Lion from a precious OSX, you may need to do an SMC and PRAM reset. This is a known issue that you can readily find on Apple's support forum ("If you left all the peripherals connected while performing the Lion upgrade that may have confused the SMC.")

Really, folks. Please stop bashing a... Read more

Beware misleading information. This is DisplayPort 1.1a compliant but 1.2 is required for audio. Like another poster said; works beautifully for video but NOT audio. I have tried this is a Westinghouse TV, Sony TV, and Pioneer receiver as well.

This adapter does not work for sound on the 2010 MacBook Pro 17". It is not compliant with the VESA v1.1a DisplayPort Interoperability Guidelines as the description states that it is. I have even talked to Apple, and they have tested this on my computer - it is not a workable feature. It does pass the video signal, but not audio. Bad advertisement folks.

I have owned many Olympus cameras in the past but this is my first camera I have purchased from their "tough" line. As advertised this thing looks and feels very sturdy. The seals on it look like they will hold out any kind of moisture and dust and the lens has its own protective shroud and cover to protect it from scratches or damage. The lens also does not extend or retract so dust, sand, and dirt cant jam it up (which is a problem I have had before). It also has a minimum of buttons to break or stick and it has a very soild body construction. So on a toughness scale of 1-10 the Stylus tough 8010 gets an 11. This camera really is in a class of its own on when it comes to durablity, and it is the only camera I have seen my colleagues take with them into combat zones.

On the other hand it looks like Olympus tried to cram all the wrong things into this rugged camera. The first thing you will notice when operating this camera is how slow it is between pictures, even... Read more

Customer Video Review Length:: 1:02 Mins

This was my first underwater video taken in Aruba, off the beach at the Renaissance Aruba's private island! I love swimming off the island - dive boats park nearby. This was also the trial run for my Olympus Tough-8010 camera and since I watched YouTube videos before deciding to purchase it, I thought it was important to post a video, mentioning how satisfied I am with the camera. Natural lighting and conditions had the most significant impacts on pictures - pretty much, what I saw, is what I got in video and still photos. The underwater scene selection was a time saver as is the handy 1 click video button. The only problem I had was probably unavoidable - underwater I could not see the picture preview at all - not enough light, I suppose -so I was forced to point and hope that I was taking the picture as intended. Very satisfied with the camera overall!!!

Do not assume that I am biased or jaded, my score is based upon real-world usage of this camera. I own the Olympus Stylus 1030SW and have been very happy with its performance as a all-around point-and-shoot as well as an underwater camera, so I was thrilled to see the 8010 come out as the upgrade with higher resolution, better zoom and deeper capabilities. I pre-ordered the 8010 and it arrived just days before we left on our cruise which enabled me to do some real-world validation. I was sorely wishing I had brought my 1030SW as I was trying to capture images on the trip.

The Good:
The overall exterior design is great on the 8010. I really liked the new double-lock on the battery / memory compartment. Kudos for moving to the standard SD format as well. The new 720 video resolution is nice as well. It still feels like it drops a frame or two every so often at 720, but it is very good quality for the optics. The camera performs well underwater with good vibrant... Read more

Customer Video Review Length:: 9:54 Mins

Update 4 August: ICS has been released and it is working very well. Flash support on chrome is giving me some trouble, but Dolphin browser still has it working fine. ICS is nice and runs a bit smoother. I cannot get the HDMI mirroring to work (and now have the official Le Pan cable for it) so if that is important wait on the upgrade. I am really enjoying ICS far more than I thought I would. I remade the attached video in a streamlined format with ICS and it is on youtube, just search "le pan ice cream sandwich" and I think it comes up. Since I think they still ship with Honeycomb I am leaving the old video up for now.

Update 23 May: I am still very pleased with my tablet. I have had almost no problems, and the few I have had were fixed with a reset. I leave my tablet on all the time. All the time. The total time it has spent physically off since I got in Jan is less than 3 days. I still have good battery life and things are great... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars What a disaster!, January 10, 2012

This review is from: Le Pan II 9.7 inch tablet pc with 8 GB flash, available to upgrade to Android 4.0.4 (Personal Computers)
I was very exited about my Le Pan tablet at first, things were going well. Then I woke up one morning and the screen was dark. I pressed the power button. Nothing. I pressed the reset button, it comes on and boots to the Le Pan logo screen and stays there. I Press the power button, nothing. I press the reset button again and it boots to the Le Pan logo screen and stays there.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

What now? I'm a week past the point were I can return it to Amazon. I contact Le Pan. They tell me a few things to try. I try them. No joy. Then they give me an RMA. Immediately I became anxious. I don't even know who these people are. What if I never get my tablet back. I keep trying to get it to work. Nothing. Finally I boxed it and sent it out via Fedex, which I had to pay for.

Guess what? It's been almost 2 months and I'm still waiting. OMG! How many times do I have to learn this lesson! Never go cheap!

Basically, I'm in a black hole without an... Read more

This review is from: Le Pan II 9.7 inch tablet pc with 8 GB flash, available to upgrade to Android 4.0.4 (Personal Computers)
[Update as of 2012-04-01 below]

I'm in a rush and will hopefully write a more in depth review over time. First impressions:

Let it be clear: I'm a first time Android user, and first time tablet owner. I've used an iPhone 3Gs for years and have a number of laptops and desktop workstations. I would say that in computing I'm an advanced user, but not an expert user. I do front-end Web development including coding, so I can figure out most things, but I don't have a degree in networking and usually figure stuff out thanks to our friends at Google. So perhaps don't know too much about computers, but I follow directions reasonably well when things start getting buggy.

Why I wanted a Tablet:
I like to read PDFs at night and my iPhone screen is just too tiny. Moreover, I like to practice my guitar using online or PDF tab and instruction and well as video instruction. Not only does the laptop create too much distance with the keyboard, but it only allows... Read more
