5.0 out of 5 stars Glad I took the chance., November 27, 2010

This review is from: Discovery Expedition Entertainment Projector (Electronics)
I read the negative reviews all over the web about this projector, and was nervous to even try it. Well, it was on sale on Black Friday, so I took the plunge. I'm so glad I did, because it performed better than I was expecting.

YES, the image is grainy if you make the image size 6-8 feet across.

YES, the produced image is a little less bright than what you would normally expect from a movie theater projector.

But, this product is perfectly good enough to watch some kids movies on the wall, or play some video games all blown up. I watched a couple of movies, and feel like I made a great purchase.

One other thing to realize- When you project a movie and wind up with a 6-8 foot wide image, you will think it looks grainy just like you do when you sit one foot in front of a television.

Put this projector on maximum distance from the wall, then move back as far back from the movie as possible, and you will see that the farther away... Read more

i got this for the purpose of showing movies or playing games outside on nice summer nights. the resolution is low, focus is iffy, and screen image gets nowhere near 10' as the box states without fading too much. speaker is terrible, but you can direct the sound cables to a stereo or something that produces better quality.

high quality projectors cost $100 to RENT. low-end HQ projectors are roughly 10x the price to buy. this is an insanely cheap projector and does everything it should be expected to do at that price. the a/v inputs are versatile, and most types of computers/games/dvd players/vcrs etc. can use them (or have adapters available). used properly, it functions adequately. it's not near perfect, but it's a totally fair budget option, and those who feel that it isn't have way too strong a sense of entitlement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for the price, November 29, 2009
This review is from: Discovery Expedition Entertainment Projector (Electronics)
A durable and lightweight portable projector intended for gaming or casual entertainment.

Pros:
Price
Durability
Large lens range (Display throw can be very close and very far away)

Cons:
Low Resolution
Moderate Fan Noise
Lack of VGA input (Though this can be easily remedied)

I believe this product is sorely underrated. The Discovery Projector IS a projector, and when I can say that I bought a projector for around eighty dollars, that is an achievement. This product is not meant to be used in a home theater-- it is for someone who needs access to a TV but may not have it. I bought this product because buying a TV would not be as portable or versatile, and a whole lot more expensive.
For those looking to connect to a laptop, look for a VGA to RCA cable. If you look in the right place, it can't be more than $5-10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Camera, Great Pictures and Videos, Great Price, April 23, 2012
M. Coleman (Burbank, CA USA) - See all my reviews

This was a quality purchase and I did a huge amount of research as well as visiting and speaking with reps at both Best Buy and Frys. And I would've actually bought on Amazon had I had more time before going on vacation but I bought it at Frys Electronics.

First off, I did many comparisons to other Canons recently released. This camera has all of the features of the 320HS except for the WiFi and the touch screen. This camera is identical except for those two features. And at the time of this purchase, those features were $30 more on that camera. But I also considered that the possibility of hardware failures increases the more features you add. Also, I didn't want to "miss a moment" waiting for the lag of a touch screen. I wanted to be able to push a button and have the picture snap. I also hate giving the camera to someone to snap a group photo and them not knowing where to touch on the screen. The traditional shutter button was a plus in my book.

As for other... Read more

In preparing for a trip to a remote area of East Africa, I needed a camera that would fit in my pocket. I have a nice Canon Rebel with all the lenses, but the fear was that if I packed that in my luggage it would be stolen, and it is too bulky to fit in my very limited carry on bag. I purchased the Canon Powershot in the hopes that it would take reasonable pictures. My expectations were that it would not do as well as what I had come to expect with my full size Canon.

The bottom line was that I was blown away with the picture quality and functionality of the camera. I was shocked at the brilliance, contrast and sharpness of the images. I took several thousand pictures on the trip and did not get one bad shot.

Also due to limited space in my carry on bag, I was not able to take a separate video camcorder. I was pleasantly surprised with the video and sound quality from this small unit.

Very rarely have I been as pleased with a product as I am with this... Read more

I purchased the Canon ELPH 100 HS camera last year to try out the Canon HS System. I was impressed with the relatively clean-looking images that can be taken in low light, compared to the noticeably noisy images taken with my older cameras. However, when I zoomed in on parts of the images to look at details, the images were soft and lacking the detail I wanted. The ELPH 100 HS also did not have an optical zoom for video - only a digital zoom, and only if the still image aspect ratio is set at 4:3. I considered getting the ELPH 300 HS, which had a 24mm wide angle lens and which did have optical zoom for video, but I decided to go for the models with the newer DIGIC 5 processor, which Canon described as follows:

"The Canon HS SYSTEM lets you take bright, clear photos in an even wider range of shooting situations. Beautiful low-light shots are possible with minimal noise and maximum detail in highlight and shadow areas. The system is the result of two technologies brought... Read more

[Anyone remembers the old "I am not going to spend a lot for this muffler" commercial?]

[NOTE: I bought TWO Premium Gold Series cables and I actually took home one Monster cable at one time so maybe I know what I am talking about :)]

Just in case someone may feel guilty for not paying a lot more for, basically the same thing, let's look at our top of the line offer, Monster HDMI 1000HD Ultra-High Speed HDMI Cable (2 meters) and do a quick comparison.

The Gold Series item supports the HDMI 1.3 standard. Any HDMI 1.3 cable can carry up to 10.2 Gbit/s. Hmmm... I suppose the Monster is much better, right? Well... it "guarantees a certified cable bandwidth of 10.2" Okay, but the Monster also supports "x.v.Color, and Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD". It turns out that, all of the above, and more, are part of the HDMI... Read more

Comparative Results: Technically Average, Overall Value Excellent (4 stars for build quality, but still the best value)

**Explanation**

Explanation of technique used for Review (actual results are below with accompanying title).
My first inclination when I received this cable, was to attempt to do a side-by-side comparison of various HDMI cables to determine what benefit, if any the various cables provide. To make such a test fair however, I had to find identical televisions, input devices, (cable box, blu-ray, standard dvd, etc), and a place to put them; as you may imagine this proved to be way more effort than it would be worth.
After contemplating the issue I came to the conclusion that such a test would be pretty worthless anyways. Since I (like most people) never watch identical televisions side by side the real question lies in whether one HDMI cable improves the picture enough that it is discernable without viewing the pictures simultaneously... These cables work just fine, but one problem, which might just be user-related.

I bought two of them, one for my PS3 and one for my DVR. My TV gave a "No Signal" error for both when I first plugged them in. I tried everything I could think of and almost gave up in frustration, accepting my failure in hoping $5 HDMI cables would function as well as the $50+ ones. Then I thought maybe to try reversing the cable, and putting the plugs in the opposite device. All of a sudden my TV dings and says 1080p. Both ends of the cable look exactly the same, but for some reason, each end has to be plugged into the correct system. Or maybe it's just me and this is common sense, I don't know...
