The Nintendo Wii is the only major gaming console that does not have a HDMI output port.

I imported a copy of Pikmin 2 for the wii which won't work on an ntsc system without component cables... or this adapter! Through HDMI the game works wondefully. It is not an upconverter, but that is not why I wanted it. I bought this so that my wii would be compatible with my computer monitor that only takes HDMI and vga, it works wonderfully for that purpose. As another review has stated, it gets "hot" really it's only slightly warm, and I've played the wii for right at... 16 hours straight and the thing hasn't caught fire so I'm sure it's safe! It's a wonderful little piece of equipment and I would reccomend to anyone that wants a connection for their wii to work with something like a computer monitor or just to lessen the mess of cables. Just to note: THIS IS NOT GOING TO IMPROVE YOUR PICTURE The purpose of this however is not to improve the picture so really it doesn't matter, but one more thing, the tv or monitor will recognize this as a 720p signal so you should... Like a lot of other people have said, this is NOT an HDMI upconverter - it only converts the analog 480p signal to digital 480p. That being said, I was a little surprised that the picture quality looked a little better than it did with my component cables (but then, that may have been the TV's handiwork). It did do a good job of reducing the clutter behind the TV, and it will significantly reduce the amount of cable swapping needed, since we only have one component input for our TV, but this setup cost about twice as much as the component adapter, after buying the HDMI cable to go with it. What I really bought this for, though, is that I play a lot of rhythm games that can't be calibrated in-game and there's a noticeable lag between the Wii and the TV, making these games frustrating at best and unplayable at worst. I was hoping that this converter might reduce the amount of processing that the TV does to make the image prettier. I've turned off all of the fancy graphics... At first I unpacked the device from the simple and modest packaging the converter came in. I was surprised there was no directions on installing or configuring the converter. However the device looked simple with a Wii male fitting on one end and and HDMI female fitting on the other. In minutes I had this product unpacked, installed and functioning. Once I had the converter installed I switched on my Wii and my TV and I had an upscaled Wii signal (720p) on the HDMI input on my TV. However the picture quality was not that improved from the 480p out of the Wii's composite cable. I was disappointed. I went back to the packaging and read that the converter could upscale to 1080p. It took me reading another review to figure out that the switch between resolutions (720p and 1080p) is the paperclip hole just below the "H" in the HDMI Converter label. It switched while connected and my TV refreshed and indicated the signal was now 1080p, yet the picture was not that improved. At...
